The Maple 8.

Canada's eight largest institutional pension managers, together managing roughly CAD $2.6 trillion across federal, provincial, and sector-specific defined-benefit mandates. Each manager has a Manager Watch primer in the archive; this page is the navigation surface.

The cohort context, side-by-side comparison, and the read of benchmark-gap patterns sit in two Allocators Desk pieces: the Top-Three read paired with the StatCan household-wealth substrate, and the Big-Eight cross-sectional snapshot. The primers below are the structural reads on each manager.

Methodology

Each primer is built from primary-source publisher material (annual results press releases, about / governance / clients pages on the manager's own site, and the most recent annual report PDF where read). Numbers cited trace to a specific source saved in the publication's research library; cross-sectional comparisons in the Desk pieces are like-for-like where the reporting periods align and explicitly noted where they do not (CPP Investments and PSP report fiscal years ending March 31; BCI also reports March 31; the rest are calendar years ending December 31).
