Welcome to TheBuySide.
First note.
What this publication is, who it is for, and what readers can expect from the first issue forward.
TheBuySide is a publication for the Canadian buy-side community: family offices, multi-family offices, RIAs, pensions, endowments, and the institutional allocators who write the cheques. It is independent of any asset manager, any data vendor, and any distributor.
The wager underwriting the publication is simple. Canadian allocators read US-centric coverage because that is what is on offer. The local conversation, when it surfaces, is conference hallway gossip and the occasional Globe and Mail interview. TheBuySide tries to close that gap with three columns:
- The Allocators Desk, on what allocators are doing: hires, mandates, manager changes, asset-mix shifts.
- CME Tracker, on aggregate capital-market expectations across asset classes, drawn from a cross-house panel of major institutional CME publications.
- Manager Watch, long-form notes on hedge funds, PE, VC, and traditional managers, with practitioner attention to terms, performance, and how strategies actually behave.
The editorial discipline is the product. One excellent piece beats five mediocre pieces. Every cited source is verified to its primary record; every aggregate figure traces to the underlying houses; every byline is real and accountable. There are no AI-generated columns. There is no sponsored content. There is no events business.
A few things readers can expect from the first issues:
- A quarterly aggregate CME piece that no one else publishes. It includes house-by-house breakdowns and the deltas that matter quarter over quarter.
- A daily Allocators Desk digest, curated and house-voiced.
- Long-form Manager Watch pieces on Canadian and cross-border funds, with the practitioner detail that comes from a working consulting practice.
The site is behind Cloudflare Access while the editorial calendar fills. Membership opens with the soft launch. If you are an allocator in the Canadian buy-side and would like to be on the first invite list, email [email protected].
